The Gavin and Stacey actor will be talking stories and movies at a special in conversation and signing event
National treasure, Larry Lamb will appear at Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle next month as part of a UK tour promoting his debut novel, All Wrapped Up.
Best known for roles in Gavin & Stacey and EastEnders, the 77-year-old will visit the city on June 16 for An Evening with Larry Lamb, a live event blending film nostalgia with personal anecdotes from his career in television and cinema.
Larry has woven in the Tyneside date on the tour, which began in Billericay will wind up in Barry Island - landmarks familiar to fans of Gavin & Stacey.
The evening event will see him discuss the inspiration behind All Wrapped Up, a behind-the-scenes thriller set on a troubled Caribbean film shoot.
The book, which draws on Larry’s decades of TV and film industry experience, centres on Killian Wilde, a first assistant director trying to keep a chaotic production afloat amid political upheaval and personal tensions.
The popular actor said he was eager to return to the North East, where he recently filmed Lonesome Pine’s thriller for 5, The Feud, playing Jill Halfpenny’s dad.
“I was delighted to discover such a thriving TV, film and arts hub in the area,” he said. “My book is about the real working people behind the scenes on a film set - the unsung heroes - and Tyneside Cinema is a fantastic example of a place that supports local access to film.”
An Evening with Larry Lamb begins at 6pm on June 16 for those who want to add a meet and greet element to proceedings, with the main event kicking off at 6.40pm. Tickets are available via Tyneside Cinema’s website.
