Why you should get to The Fire Station early this August
BBC Introducing artists will open for everyone from Maxïmo Park and Kula Shaker to Richard Hawley and Pale Waves as the Sunderland venue gives emerging talent a platform
Some of the North East’s most exciting emerging artists will find themselves playing to some of their biggest audiences yet this August, thanks to a partnership between BBC Introducing and Sunderland’s Summer Parties series at The Fire Station.
Carefully matched with headline artists whose audiences are likely to appreciate their sound, the BBC Introducing line up promises to give concertgoers the chance to discover new music before the main event.
Across the month, acts including Cortney Dixon, Esmeralda Road, Venus Grrrls, Hector Gannet, Swindled and Spacecadetbloom will perform ahead of headliners including Kula Shaker, Pale Waves, John Grant and Richard Hawley, The Lottery Winners and Maxïmo Park.
The programme builds on a collaboration established last year between BBC Introducing and North East music organisations including The Fire Station, The Glasshouse International Centre for Music, Generator, Tees Music Alliance and Middlesbrough Town Hall, with the aim of creating more opportunities for emerging artists across the region.

“The North East is producing some of the most exciting new artists in the country, and through this collaboration we’re able to place outstanding emerging artists from the region and across the UK on our stages alongside major national and international headliners.
“It’s a brilliant opportunity for audiences to discover new music, so our advice is simple: get down early and discover your new favourite band.”
BBC Introducing has a formidable track record of identifying future stars, with alumni including Sam Fender, RAYE, Florence + The Machine, Lewis Capaldi and Olivia Dean.
