Teamsheet for return leg of Gerry and Sewell is out
Stars of stage, screen and stand up will join members of the original cast for the production's Newcastle return following a West End residency earlier this year

The cast has been announced for the return of hit Geordie stage show Gerry & Sewell, which heads back to Newcastle Theatre Royal next month following a sell-out run on Tyneside and a successful transfer to London’s West End.
Dean Logan and Jack Robertson will reprise their roles as the title characters (Gerry and Sewell, respectively) when the production returns to the top Grey Street from June 9-13.
Anyone passing the venue this week will have noticed it’s already draped in black and white in preparation for the triumphant homecoming.

Dean and Jack will be joined by Becky Clayburn as Tyneside, Matty Renton returning as himself – founder and owner of The Magpie Channel – and Erin Mullen reprising her role as Bridget McCarten.
Newcomers to the cast are Newcastle-born actor and comedian Sammy T. Dobson, currently appearing in Casualty, as Clare McCarten (a role played by Chelsea Halfpenny for the West End run), while David Nellist - fresh from a recent tour of I, Daniel Blake - and Angela Lonsdale (Coronation Street, All Creatures Great and Small) will play Mr and Mrs McCarten respectively.
One has to wonder whether the new cast members were recruited en masse at this year’s Sunday for Sammy fundraising gigs where an extract from Gerry and Sewell made up part of proceedings and Angela, David and Sammy all appeared in a comedy sketch entitled: Blind Gatesheed.

Produced by Eastlake Productions and Newcastle Theatre Royal, the show will once again feature live music, puppet dogs and support from fan group Wor Flags.
Gerry & Sewell last played Newcastle Theatre Royal in 2024, where it enjoyed a week-long sell-out run after previously packing out performances at Laurels Theatre in Whitley Bay and Live Theatre.
Earlier this year, the production travelled to London’s Aldwych Theatre for a successful West End residency, transforming the venue into “a sea of black and white”.
Adapted by Olivier Award-winning Jamie Eastlake from Jonathan Tulloch’s novel The Season Ticket, the production tells the story of two Gateshead lads from the wrong side of the Metro tracks determined to secure season tickets for Newcastle United.
The novel also inspired cult Geordie film Purely Belter.
Rehearsals for the June run of performances will begin in a week or so.
A synopsis for the stage show says: “With nowt but each other, their wits, and the dream of standing in St James’ Park, the pair will stop at nothing to make their dream a reality – dodging radgie charvers, the social, and the odd madcap scrap merchant on the way.”
It adds: “Whether you bleed black and white, red and white, or aren’t a fan at all, this is a story about far more than football.”
Gerry & Sewell runs at Newcastle Theatre Royal fromJune 9-13. Tickets are available from the theatre box office on 0191 232 7010 and website.
