Smoggie Queens snapshots unveiled ahead of second series of Teesside TV comedy
Phil Dunning’s BBC Three sitcom returns this spring with Monica Dolan joining the cast and cameos from Middlesbrough football favourites Jeff Stelling and Chris Kamara.

If you’ve been waiting for news of the return of Teesside-set sitcom, Smoggie Queens, then a suite of images, offering a glimpse of series two should keep you topped up.
Set to return later this spring, the award-winning show, written by BAFTA-nominated Middlesbrough native Phil Dunning, will be streamed on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three with even more “chaos, heart and mischief” being trailed.
Phil reprises his role as the volatile Dickie, alongside Mark Benton as drag queen Mam, Alexandra Mardell as ‘self-styled hun’ Lucinda, Patsy Lowe as the awkward Sal and Elijah Young as newly out Stewart.
Set and filmed in Middlesbrough, the series - which has received funding support from the North East Production Fund, delivered by North East Screen - continues to follow the group as they navigate relationships, friendship and plenty of drama around the town they call home.
The second series will also welcome several new faces to the cast, including BAFTA-winning actor Monica Dolan alongside Amalia Vitale and Freya Parker. Middlesbrough sporting personalities Jeff Stelling and Chris Kamara are set to make appearances too.

A number of familiar characters will also return, with Neil Grainger, Charlotte Riley, Peter McPherson, Lauryn Redding, Michael Mather, Bill Fellows, Michael Hodgson, Steph McGovern and Michelle Visage all reprising their roles.
Picking up where the first series left off, the new episodes see Dickie single and searching for romance, while Mam finds herself confronting ghosts from her past that have returned to the Boro.
Elsewhere, Sal is torn between Danni and Mel, Lucinda encounters a roadblock in her relationship with Neil and Stewart embraces a new chapter in his life after recently coming out.
The series promises an eclectic mix of storylines, with upcoming episodes featuring date nights, coming-out parties, a male beauty pageant and a football match.

Produced by Hat Trick Productions (Derry Girls, Outnumbered and Have I Got News For You), the six-part series is produced by Chris Jones and directed by Tom Marshall, whose credits include Ted Lasso and Famalam.
