Quayside recording studios set for summer completion
A glimpse of what's coming
The firm contracted to create state-of-the-art recording studios on Newcastle Quayside has released images to show what the facility could look like when finished.
Gateshead-based Arcas Building Solutions is refurbishing the Grade II-listed Coronation Building, owned by nearby Live Theatre, to create the £1.5m Quayside Studios.
Managing director Michael Nesbit said: “Our involvement builds on a strong track record of working within the arts and heritage sector, including the successful refurbishment and enhancement of venues such as Alnwick Playhouse and Tyneside Cinema.
“These projects have provided us with valuable insight into the unique challenges and opportunities that come with upgrading creative spaces while preserving their character and purpose.
“Working closely with Live Theatre, and with significant interest and support from Newcastle City Council, this scheme is designed to create a high quality, industry standard facility capable of attracting leading artists, producers and creative talent to the region.”
As well as four recording studios, the site at 65 Quayside will also include a live room, podcasting suites, photography and film studio, and multimedia and educational suite.
The conversion is funded by the North East Combined Authority (NECA) with money from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Ultimately the facility will be occupied by creative studio SW6 One whose clients include Disney, Warner Music and artists such as Central Cee and Burna Boy.
Work began late last year when the Arcas team set about demolishing and stripping existing workspaces to make way for the studios.
A glass facade at the rear is to be replaced and the historic building’s interiors given a facelift.
With the job requiring a dedicated team, jobs have been created at the construction firm.
Mr Armstrong said the work was on course for completion in the summer.
“The finished building will provide a dynamic, modern space that supports creativity, collaboration, and growth within the local arts sector,” he said.
“As a North East-based contractor, this project also reflects our wider ambition to establish Arcas Building Solutions Ltd as a key player in the regional construction industry, delivering high quality, technically demanding schemes that make a lasting contribution to the communities we serve.”
