Peter Rabbit trail almost ready to hop onto North East streets
St Oswald's Hospice's free family art trail will celebrate Beatrix Potter's beloved character with super-size sculptures appearing across Newcastle and North Tyneside
The co
untdown is on to the arrival of giant Peter Rabbit sculptures across Newcastle and North Tyneside, with the region's latest public art trail due to open on July 15.
Peter Rabbit™: Tales on the Tyne, presented by St Oswald’s Hospice, will see the artworks - each designed by artists from the region and beyond - pepper streets, parks and public spaces.
The free trail, which runs until September 14, marks the hospice’s 40th anniversary and the 160th anniversary of Beatrix Potter’s birth. It follows the success of previous North East sculpture trails including Great North Snowdogs, Elmer’s Great North Parade and Shaun on the Tyne.
Alongside the large sculptures, schools and community groups have been creating smaller ‘Little Peter’ sculptures, which will also feature along the route.
Visitors will be able to explore the trail using a dedicated app and map, collecting rewards and discovering more about the artworks as they go.
As with previous Wild in Art trails, the giant Peter Rabbit sculptures will be auctioned after the event to raise vital funds for St Oswald’s Hospice, while organisers hope thousands of people will spend the summer discovering art, exploring the region and supporting the charity’s work.
