North East performers invited to join Annie cast
The musical will bring together performers from Tyne Theatre Productions and Tyne Youth Company for a 2027 production
The sun will come out in Newcastle in 2027 as Tyne Theatre Productions has announced Annie as its next major amateur dramatic production.
Bringing together members of Tyne Theatre Productions and Tyne Youth Company, the classic musical is set to take over the stage at Newcastle’s Tyne Theatre and Opera House early next year.
Performers of all ages will get the chance to be part of one of musical theatre’s most enduring crowd-pleasers, following the story of an ever-optimistic orphan called Annie and featuring unforgettable songs including Tomorrow, Hard Knock Life and Easy Street.
Audition details are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
Rachel Snape, head of community engagement and participation at the theatre, said: “I’m incredibly excited that we’ll be bringing Annie to the Tyne Theatre & Opera House in 2027.
“Following their rebrands just last year, our in-house companies are already making huge strides towards becoming a cornerstone of the theatre’s community engagement and participation programme.
“Annie will give us the unique opportunity to bring together two of our companies in what promises to be a spectacular production.”
The show follows a growing period of activity for the theatre’s in-house companies, which have been working to expand opportunities for local performers, creatives and theatre-makers.
Alongside casting announcements, the theatre is also preparing to recruit artistic team members and shadow roles for its 2026-27 season, creating opportunities for emerging directors, choreographers, musical directors and production staff to gain experience.
Rachel added: “I’m very much looking forward to seeing the talent within our local community during the upcoming auditions.
“We would encourage anyone with a passion for performing to come along.”
