Nightfall to light up Middlesbrough
The much-loved after-dark trail is back in Stewart Park next week with giant artworks, a silent disco and festive food under the stars
Middlesbrough’s Stewart Park will once again be transformed into a glowing after-dark playground next week as light event Nightfall returns for a three-night run.
November 28-30 are the dates to note down if you want to be among the thousands to enjoy the illuminated arts trail - now a staple of the Tees Valley winter calendar - which is close to selling out.
This year’s trail, Larger in Light, has been created by Tees Valley-based arts organisation Stellar Creates and promises interactive light installations, giant illuminated creatures, a glittering outdoor silent disco and a string of imaginative after-dark moments.
Organisers reckon the remaining late-evening entries make for a perfect date night or a festive night out with friends, complete with street food under the stars and live DJs to round off the evening. It’s hard to argue.
The street food line up includes Spud Gun Loaded Fries, Smash Burgers, GRK Greek Street Food, Cook’s Pizzeria, Twisted Chick, Doughvine Desserts and Best Bits Bakery. Festive drinks - from mulled wine and winter cocktails to hot chocolate and specialty coffees - will be served by Sip & Saddle, The Hive, Mr Bentley’s, JoJo’s Coffee Van and Barista Sisters.
DJs Adam R J Walker, DJ Awkward Black Girl and Wayne C McDonald will keep the energy high at the trail’s finale point, where visitors can warm up, dance and soak in the atmosphere.
Lyndsey Stephenson, director at Stellar Creates, said: “Nightfall has always been about creating moments of magic, and this year’s Larger in Light trail is no exception.
“As well as incredible illuminated artworks, we’re bringing even more to enjoy after dark - from delicious street food and festive drinks to brilliant local DJs entertaining everyone at the end of the trail. It’s a full evening out under the stars, perfect for friends, couples and families to wrap up warm, explore, and celebrate the start of the festive season together.”
Nightfall has become one of the region’s most anticipated winter attractions, drawing thousands each year to experience the spectacle of light, colour and creativity across the park.
With the countdown now on, organisers are urging those without tickets who want to soak it all up to book quickly to avoid kicking themselves - we’re paraphrasing.
Tickets are priced at £17.50 for adults and £12.50 for children aged three and over, with younger children and essential companions admitted free. Discounted off-peak Sunday tickets are still available for the final time slots. All remaining tickets are available at nightfallfestival.co.uk
