New bar to open at Theatre Royal
Newcastle Theatre Royal is set to open a new public bar at 11 Market Street this summer, transforming the former DatBar site into a contemporary social space for both theatre audiences and the wider public.
The yet-to-be-named venue follows the successful launch of 100 Grey Street, the theatre’s café and wine bar, and is part of a wider strategy to open up the iconic building to more people, more often.
Newly released artist impressions show a relaxed, welcoming interior designed by Mawson Kerr and Design North, featuring earthy tones, luxury fabrics, brass fittings, and a striking steel link-chain ceiling.
Theatre Royal operations director, Siobhan Lightfoot, said: “We are proudly known for creating moments of magic on and off the stage and we’re excited to expand upon our offering by opening a fresh and inviting new venue in the centre of Newcastle.
“As the city enjoys increasing inward investment and a growing visitor economy, we want to celebrate and share our beautiful building. Our new venue will be open to members of the public in the day and evening, and open to patrons coming through our doors to enjoy our programme of world class shows”.
