Young songwriters across the North East have until November 16 to apply for a £1,000 bursary established in memory of legendary Newcastle musician Alan Hull.
The annual Alan Hull Bursary supports aspiring songwriters aged 25 and under, offering financial assistance to help them develop their music.
Hull, who died in 1995, was a founding member and principal songwriter of folk-rock band Lindisfarne.
Proud of his North East roots and known for his support of young musicians, Hull left a musical legacy which the award aims to carry forward by encouraging the region’s next generation of songwriting talent.
Previous recipients include Marty Longstaff of The Lake Poets, the late Faye Fantarrow, Katie Grace, Isabel Maria and Ollie Regan.
Applications are assessed by an independent panel which includes Northumbrian musician Kathryn Tickell OBE and Lindisfarne drummer Ray Laidlaw.
Applicants must be based in the North East and submit a supporting statement outlining their musical experiences, influences and songwriting ambitions, alongside lyrics and examples of their work.
Applications can be made through the Community Foundation’s online grants portal where more information can also be found.
