Countdown to Futureheads festive album and Sunderland shows
The Wearside four-piece band put their trademark twist on Christmas ahead of hometown shows
The Futureheads will release their first-ever Christmas album on November 21, bringing their distinctive sound to a collection of seasonal favourites and original songs.
Recorded over nine months in Sunderland, Christmas features reworkings of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, The Pretenders’ 2000 Miles, Jona Lewie’s Stop The Cavalry and Paul McCartney’s Wonderful Christmastime.
Alongside the covers are two original tracks - The Coldest Winter in 100 Years, a new song, and Christmas Was Better in the 80s, first released by the band in 2010. The album was self-produced by Barry Hyde, Ross Millard, David “Jaff” Craig and Dave Hyde, and will be released via Nul Records.
Described as “a joyful left-turn,” Christmas promises to capture the Sunderland quartet’s sharp harmonies and humour while giving the festive canon an inventive edge.
To coincide with the release, the band will perform a series of December dates, including two home turf shows at The Fire Station in Sunderland on December 19 and 20.
Christmas is available to pre-order now. Tickets for the Sunderland shows can be found here.
