Community-owned Newcastle venue lands top grassroots music venue prize
The Globe was crowned winner following a public vote

Newcastle music venue, The Globe has picked up a major national honour at the 2026 Music Week Awards.
The community-owned space which has embedded itself in the North East live music scene over the past 12 years won the publicly voted Grassroots Venue: Spirit of the Scene award at a ceremony in London on May 7.
Presented in partnership with Music Venue Trust, the category celebrates grassroots venues that make a significant impact on their local music communities.
Accepting the award on behalf of The Globe, volunteer events manager Stephen Ferrell said: “Thank you, but this is not just for The Globe. This is really a win for all the grassroots venues that help to keep live music alive.”
The venue’s chair, Debra Milne, also thanked supporters and volunteers following the announcement.
She said: “Thanks to everyone who voted for The Globe! And special thanks to Stephen Ferrell who’s transformed the events programme, venue manager Shelly and the lovely bar staff, and of course to the brilliant volunteers who help run events, and do so much behind the scenes.”
The latest accolade adds to a growing list of honours for The Globe in recent years, including Jazz Venue of the Year at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards 2022 and Best Live Music Venue at The Newcastle Awards 2018.
