Another chapter for The Sunderland Story
The tale of the city's beloved football club will return to the stage in 2025
It brought every audience to their feet when it premiered last year, and now many more people will have the chance to enjoy The Sunderland Story.
Sunderland Empire and Sunderland AFC have announced an updated version of the popular production will return to the stage in May 2025.
Told via music, comedy and deep rooted emotion, the show chronicles the history of Sunderland AFC from its first trophy win to the team’s legendary managers and scorers including Watson, Stokoe, Reid, Cochrane, Campbell, and Gurney and one of the biggest moments in SAFC’s history - the 1973 FA Cup.
Audiences will once again be introduced to the Carter family who are mourning the loss of their patriarch and reminisce about days gone by, family and friends, shipbuilding and the mines while surveying the city’s new developments.
Writer, Nicky Allt said: “We had an unforgettable experience with The Sunderland Story during its first run and the time is right to bring the show back for the many who have asked, and the many who did not get to see it first time round.
“You’ll see new scenes and songs that we could not get in first showing - such is the history of such a storied city and magnificent football club.
“Sunderland in one word is PASSION. It truly is an honour to write something for the passionate people of Sunderland.”
Marie Nixon, theatre director at the Empire, said: “We are absolutely delighted the show is returning.
“The atmosphere in the auditorium during performances last year was electric. You could feel the emotion from the crowd and their love of the club. It really was something special and we can’t wait to experience it again.”
The Sunderland Story will run from May 15-31, 2025. Tickets are now on sale from the Sunderland Empire box office and online via the website.
