Alan Ayckbourn classic has Sheridan - and Wearside - in mind
Sunderland Empire will welcome Olivier and BAFTA winner Sheridan Smith next spring as she leads the cast for a new production of Woman In Mind

Sheridan Smith is heading to Sunderland next spring as she takes on the lead role in Alan Ayckbourn’s Woman in Mind.
The Olivier Award-winning actress will bring the critically acclaimed play to the Sunderland Empire from March 4-7 - one of only two venues the production will tour to following a three-month run in the West End.
Tickets go on sale at 11am today (September 18) from the Sunderland Empire website.
One of Ayckbourn’s most powerful works, Woman in Mind is a psychological comedy exploring identity, family, and mental escape.

Sheridan will play Susan who, after suffering a bump to the head experiences a fracturing of her world between a bleak reality and a blissful imagined life. As the two collide, the play shifts between heart and humour in a way that has made it one of Ayckbourn’s most enduring dramas.
The 44-year-old, who also has a BAFTA on her shelf, is no stranger to tackling complex and moving roles.
She can currently be seen on ITVX in powerful real life drama I Fought the Law, playing Ann Ming, the North East woman who successfully campaigned to overturn the 800-year-old Double Jeopardy rule in order to achieve justice for her murdered daughter, Julie.
Other small screen successes include Mrs Biggs (for which she got the BAFTA); Cilla and The C Word while her stellar stage career to date includes Olivier-recognised turns in Legally Blonde and Flare Path, along with an acclaimed performance Shirley Valentine.
